Project SAU In-Campus Vehicle Road Circulation Design | Location Sakarya, Turkey | Date 2020 | Client Sakarya University | Status Delivery

Team Architect Nurşah Kaplan, Architect – Urban Planner Gülhis Yetginer

Sakarya University has continued to develop with the newly opened departments over the years. Over time, new buildings were built in line with the needs and spread over a wide area. As a result, today it is a large campus area rather than a compact campus area.

With each new building and section added, a new one was added under the existing signs each time, resulting in a complex direction sign. This makes it very difficult to use for visitors who have just arrived on campus and want to find their way around the signage.

The campus is crowded with vehicles, especially during the exams held all over Turkey, with the arrival of students and their families from outside. The lack of the first welcome sign at the main entrance and the campus exit directions cause congestion and long traffic in the entrance-exit areas.

In order to solve the aforementioned problems, the circulation areas of the campus were rearranged. First, the main entrance roads and main evacuation routes were determined, and then separate entrance and exit routes were determined for each zone and building. In this way, instead of routing from a single point like the current situation, new routes have been determined to disperse the possible congestion and provide easier/faster tracking.
